What a journey it has been for this Mid-Century Modern Renovation! From the front steps to the back patio this home has been turned inside out and rebuilt to maintain it’s original integrity while upgrading the kitchen, bathrooms and added on sunroom! Let’s start from the beginning.
3539 Kim Court was a forlorn rental that had been beaten up, peed on and left to rot. When the current owner finally closed on it after what seemed like a decade of negotiations with the bank, Kim Ct. was in need of some serious TLC. The front steps were dangerously rotten with a family of snakes living in them. So the owner took them out, completely and then he decided to pull the existing retaining wall down and rebuild from the ground up – literally.
Along with a fresh coat of paint the owner added a new carport roof and replaced over 25% of the T&G boards in the carport that had rotted away. He also repaired the entire main roof and added a new gutter system and downspouts along the back of the home.
Before any of the demo was done to this Mid-Century Modern diamond in the rough, the oder of dog and tequila clung to the walls and saturated the designating laminate wood floors. Everything had to go! The fake wood floors were replaced with real, oak, hardwood floors on both upper and main levels.
The kitchen didn’t have anything worth saving and was essentially a makeshift with patchwork cabinetry and a hodgepodge of non-working appliances. Everything was demoed and rebuilt including electrical, plumping, cabinetry, granite, backsplash. The whole 9-yards. The wall between the living room and kitchen was brought town to create a more open entertaining space and the window between the kitchen and sunroom was widened and lowered to create a dual bar area and easy access from the sink.
The sunroom was added on by a previous owner in the 1980’s (information provided by a neighbor who grew up next-door). It was used by the previous tenants dog as a bathroom and was in desperate need of fresh paint and lots and lots of new carpet! The sunroom in this home adds on a generous 500 sq. ft. this doesn’t include the already expanded original footprint of 3539 Kim court which has an extra long living room, dining room and kitchen!
The bathrooms were another story. Unfortunately the original tile had been replaced in the 80’s and the bathroom wasn’t worth saving. Because so many home buyers want more privacy and separate bathrooms these days the owner decided to separate the “hollywood” footprint and create two separate bathrooms with new tile, plumbing, vanities, all new fixtures and plenty of sex-appeal!
The downstairs living area was outright scary with miles of laminate flooring, saturated in dog pee and spiderwebs on every surface. After several layers of fresh paint, new lighting and a serious carpet job the space was transformed from serial killer liar to cozy, family den!
