The Mt. Paran-Northside Citizens Association

The Mount Paran neighborhood has an active and vocal neighborhood association that has fought unwanted development and has successfully kept apartments, condominiums, offices and nursing homes out of their boundaries in order to maintain residential integrity.

Established in October 1984, the Mt. Paran-Northside Citizens Association stands as a nonprofit tax-exempt corporation, comprising approximately 900 homes within our area. Guided by its Bylaws, the Corporation’s primary objectives are to unite residents and interested individuals.  It is a way to keep members informed of any  challenges and needs of the neighborhood.  This provides a platform for residents to address concerns, and to safeguard the interests and integrity of the locale.

The activities of the Association are governed primarily by the Board of Directors that set the annual dues and are presently $25 per household.  The financial support from annual membership dues facilitates access to legal and professional services, dissemination of information through newsletters, flyers, and the website, publication and distribution of crime reports, and the creation of a membership directory for the neighborhood’s benefit.

Warren T. Jackson Elementary School

An International Baccalaureate World School, is an Atlanta Public School, nationally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and schools. Since 1965, Jackson Elementary has been the quiet jewel in our neighborhood that has consistently provided our children with superior academics, unique learning experiences and an emotional intelligence so they are fully prepared for their academic future.

Sutton Middle School

Also an accredited International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, delivering the Middle Years Programme (MYP) in partnership with North Atlanta High School. The MYP at Sutton Middle School champions a philosophy of vibrant and ongoing learning, achieved through interdisciplinary planning.

In the autumn of 2006, marking over three decades since Sutton Middle School’s inception, students stepped into a completely revitalized campus. Sutton has undergone a trans-formative journey and now stands proudly as the owner of a cutting-edge facility. This includes a sophisticated conference and meeting center, a modern media center, and an arts complex that accommodates the school’s acclaimed band and orchestra, as well as housing the art and drama departments. Additionally, a recently added chorale department, nine state-of-the-art science labs, five computer labs, and a fully equipped performing arts theatre further enhance the school’s academic and creative landscape. North Atlanta High School

NAHS offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program,  regarded as the most rigorous, college-preparatory curriculum in the world.  Through rigorous academics, well-rounded extra-curricular activities, competitive athletic programs, study abroad opportunities and its  diverse student body, North Atlanta High School prepares students to engage in the wider world that awaits them upon graduation.  This High School was rated no. 22 on The Washington Post’s list  of Georgia’s most challenging schools.  It offers programs you won’t find at other public schools: Debate, orchestra, water polo, yoga, chess, news programs, Amnesty International, Future Business Leaders of America, robotics, and many more!

Pace Academy – is located on the northern portion of West Paces in the lavish Buckhead community.  The school prides itself on prepping students for college and life as a citizen in a connected world. Chastain Memorial Park

Conveniently located just a 4-minute drive from the neighborhood, this amazing green space provides a plethora of activities for the whole family to enjoy. The 268 acre park provides visitors with walking trails, and children’s playgrounds.  Sports enthusiasts will love the tennis courts and the 18 hole golf course.  Horse lovers can visit the Chastain Horse Park for riding lessons and other equestrian activities.  An outdoor amphitheater that holds concerts is Atlanta’s oldest outdoor music venue.

Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area

You can float, fish, or play in 48 miles of river as it flows through the northern suburbs of Atlanta.  You can bring your own canoe, kayak, or paddleboard to explore the river. There are designated boat ramps and launch sites available for public use.  Use your land legs as you explore one of the 15 land units strung like emeralds along the river. Residents that want a more challenging trek, the Mt Paran Trail is a great workout.   The trail offers a scenic route for walking, jogging, or hiking.  This trail combines nature and elevation, providing everyone with a fulfilling journey and breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.

The Last Country Store in Buckhead

Within the upscale Mount Paran/Northside neighborhood, a quaint wooden structure catches the eye, seemingly an unexpected presence in its surroundings.   The MT Paran Country store has been open since 1906 with a long and interesting history.    The compact parking lot buzzes with life—high-end automobiles glide in to refuel, children dash inside with pockets filled with change in pursuit of sweets.  You may also encounter a few chickens crossing the road.  This “oasis” provides breakfast and lunch items prepared on site for many people on their way to work.  It’s a melting pot of cultures, languages, and walks of life.
